No matter how many times I've learned this truth, I continue to believe that if I work hard enough, at some point everything will eventually get all figured out. When I was younger and I saw successful businesses, they seemed like they "had it all together." Successful people would seem like this too. But the more I live and learn the more I see that there is no escape from the constant unfolding of our journey.
There is great relief in just giving into the process. I've been feeling this even more now that we have transitioned into the newest evolution of Upward Spiral with the integration of a full healing center in addition to the continuation of our unique approach to healing with massage therapy. We now have a wellness store and healing room open to the public as well as new employees to help run all of this.
A few weeks before we opened I imagined that we could "have it all done" by our open date of August first. The week leading up to the opening I had to let that idea go; everything wasn't "perfect" like my mind could imagine it to be and yet it was still an amazing success. A few weeks later we are still working out all the bugs. With each new thing we add, there is a list of unanticipated hurdles. But that's just the way it goes.
There's no need to curse the process, because it has been quite beautiful. It's a lot like healing. When clients come in looking for relief from pain and we begin their unwinding to initiate the upward spiral of their lives, it is not uncommon for that process to have its own hurdles. We love helping others to navigate this tenuous space. Though it can sometimes "get worse before it gets better" or involve uncovering physical or emotional pains they hadn't realized were a factor in their healing, most of our clients would agree they wouldn't trade their process for the world.
Though the past month or more has been one of the most stressful times in my life, it has also given me the courage and strength to move forward in so many ways. I feel even more powerful now, though I am having to learn new skills including management and delegation. We are creating new jobs and a healthy work environment for several people in the community, which is helping them on their own upward spirals, personally and professionally.
We know that Upward Spiral will continue to evolve and we welcome this evolution. Who knows what will emerge, but we will keep our hearts, minds, and eyes open to our next steps in creating a supportive healing community in Tampa Bay.
