Last September we held and open house and fundraiser for a very special client of ours. Trevor Joyce is a veteran of the U.S. Army and Survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury. We invited our community to help raise the funds to purchase him a wonderful therapeutic device called a Biomat. Not only did you all come through, but so much came so early in our fundraising we decided to raise the goal from a mini-biomat to a full. Trevor is an exceptionally tall man and often the rehabilitation equipment he has access to is too small. Not this one, thanks to you!
For those of you unaware, rehabilitation from a Traumatic Brain Injury is a slow and long road. Trevor and his mother, his primary care taker, have basically left their home and family in Kansas to build a new life here so they can be closer to the care Trevor needs from the V.A. Hospital. We've been working with them since 2011 and have adopted them as family of our own.
As Trevor's healing has progressed, we believe that it is not only our massages that have helped him slowly reconnect with his body, but it is the sense of community we've been able to offer him. At the Fundraiser, Trevor got to enjoy a relaxing meditation with cello played by Grace Juliano. Then Dr. Tanya Gold had us rolling on the floor with Laughter and Yoga. This got Trevor all ready for his private comedy show from local comedians, Mona Chiorizo and John Jacobs.
We will never know if its related to all this, but we are happy to report great strides have been happening in Trevor's abilities including moving his right foot and leg! It may not seem like much but for those of us who work with him we are overjoyed to see this progress.
We just wanted to THANK OUR COMMUNITY for coming together for this project. This is truly what the upward spiral is all about.
